Even if it’s work that we like to do. Even if it’s a relationship that we cherish. Even if it’s our favorite hobby, which might be running, going to the gym, etc.
Even
if we love doing all of this, there will be times when we feel disinterested. Why
do we feel like that?
When
we see our sporting role models perform well in the Olympics when we see them win.
We feel motivated to replicate them which is very normal.
After
that, we start pursuing our passion. But, making it a regular and continuous process
is tough. Why do we feel demotivated at times?
HOW TO BE MOTIVATED?
Not all of us can
afford a trainer or a coach who can guide us. But, we need motivation to
regularly pursue something.
It
is being said that self-motivation is overrated. It is being said that
motivating ourselves to be successful is overrated.
When
we are demotivated, we need that extra push to keep doing what we do. What is
that?
There
will be a few off days when we can’t motivate ourselves. When we don’t know how
to start a day.
We
will feel bored going through the same routine day in and day out. The question
of “How long should I do it?” will keep bothering us.
Yes,
I love what I am doing. But, how long should I keep doing it? When can I live
the way I want to?
When doing questions like this bother us? When negative thoughts enter our minds. Self-motivation
alone is not enough, we need motivation from outside.
I
read Wing of Fire book written by Abdul Kalam recently. He also had an inferiority
complex at times. Once he was told that he had to meet Indira Gandhi.
After
the appointment for the meeting was set up. He had told his friend, that he didn’t
even have a proper dress to wear for the meeting.
He
asked his friend whether the simple attire that he wore would be suitable for
the meeting. For which his friend
replied that the attire didn’t matter at all.
His
success as a scientist was his identity. So, his clothes didn’t matter. But the
fact that Abul Kalam also had such thoughts is quite a relief for us.
We
often laud him as the missile man for his scientific achievements. But, before
that, he had faced only failures for almost 20 years.
Even when he was a small kid in Rameswaram. At
the same age where we all would have dreamt of flying in a plane.
He
was nurturing a passion for flights. He wanted to be part of the Indian Air
Force. But, he couldn’t get through.
Only
8 candidates have selected Abdul Kalam as 9th. So, he failed in
that as well. Which led to thoughts that he might fail in his ambitions.
The
journey of struggle and failure continued for 20 years. His mentor was Vikram
Sarabhai. Nehru and Vikram Sarabhai nullified the fact that the Indian economy was
at one of its lowest points with their
single-minded focus on sending a rocket into space despite constant criticisms
and questions.
Only
a few countries had sent their rocket into space. The dream was to make India a
part of the elite list. It had taken India 20 years for that dream to come
true.
Abdul
Kalam’s passion and hard work helped India to fulfill its dreams. So, if you
want to feel motivated you can read these biographies.
But,
if you don’t feel like reading listen to audiobooks what’s their story will be
the perfect alternative for you.
Audiobooks have consolidated and compiled a brief version of their biographies.
During
this pandemic situation, we have been finding it extremely difficult to cope
with the loss of near and dear ones. This happens to everyone.
Abdul
Kalam had big dreams and aspirations for himself. During this journey, he lost
his friend Jalaluddin. His Mom and Dad too passed away in a few years.
He
lost his mentor Vikram Sarabhai as well. Vikram Sarabhai’s death happened
exactly an hour after a conversation with Kalam.
After
suffering so many losses, Abdul Kalam got frustrated with life itself. He felt
an emptiness from within.
But,
he steadfastly held onto something which his professor told him. “We have to do
try as hard as we can while pursuing our passion. The monetary benefit we get
out of it doesn’t matter”. Abdul Kalam moved on from the losses to pursue his
passion.
The
struggles that he went through when his life was in a downward spiral. The people
with whom he talked and shared his struggles have all been documented in
this book by Kalam himself.
The
kid from Rameswaram who dreamt of flying high. Went on to become an important person
in India’s space mission.
Kalam
went through so many ups and downs in his life. But, still went on to achieve
great things. We always feel a connection with someone who shares our habits.
In
the same way, when we struggle in life. We get inspired by personalities who
have gone through similar struggles before becoming achievers.
You
can listen to such stories as audiobooks. These books will serve as a dosage
of positivity. You can listen to many
such books and stories through audiobooks. Just like how starting the day with
positivity is important.
In
the same way, going to sleep peacefully is important irrespective of how good or
bad the day is. Ending the day peacefully will also ensure that the start of
the next day is perfect.
I
usually read books and detach myself from everything that happened during the
day before going to sleep. In case you want to listen to stories or motivational
life stories at night.
Wings
of Fire was very inspiring for me. If you like this blog post is interesting. Please
