HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE

Psych Hacks to Be Successful 01

Expert advice from three successful people. The five-second golden rule by Mel Robbins. Motivation is garbage, that is according to Mel Robbins author of the five-second golden rule.

So what is this five-second rule? Well, it’s not that rule when you drop your food you can pick it up and eat it as long as it hasn’t been on the ground for five seconds.

The five-second golden rule is a brain hack to ignore the amygdala, don’t worry part of your brain. Whenever you thought of a plan or an idea and directly sends it to your frontal lobe, the critical thinking part of your brain.

The way this works is as soon as you thought of an idea count to five seconds and act on it. Or else procrastination will set in.

You see whenever we come up with a brilliant idea our brain stops us and holds us back by producing anxiety and doubt. It’s our brain's defense mechanism to protect us from physical danger and emotional rejection.

Brought to you by uncertainty and new experiences. This is when we decide to postpone or otherwise delay and hold off our plans or ideas that otherwise could change our lives.

This is when we try to choose between what we feel we should do and what needs to be done? But fail miserably to do what’s necessary?

Because our emotions always take over, courtesy of how our brains are hard-wired. That is why motivation is garbage.

Because if we wait for it. It’ll never come. According to Robbins, our brain kill us our ideas five seconds from its conception. Because after five seconds your worry brain kicks in. And the only technique for us to push ourselves is to hack our brain.

And bypass the worry part. The five-second rule works because the countdown overtakes your brain's defense mechanism and blocks off any attempt of killing your ideas.

MAKE YOUR BED IN THE MORNING

Psych Hacks to Be Successful 04

If you want to change yourself or the world, start off by making your bed. That is according to Admiral William McRaven in his commencement speech at the University of Texas.

Admiral William McRaven is the author of the book “Make you Bed: Little things that can change your life and maybe the world”. So how can a simple deed as making your bed can change your day?

Let alone the world? According to his speech making your bed in the morning has its huge benefits. If you do this in the morning you have accomplished the first task of the day.

Which gives you a sense of pride and can encourage you to do other tasks. And be better throughout the day.

It gives you a sense of discipline, it might seem boring but making your bed in the morning is similar to other morning routines. It’s an easy task to accomplish which will make you proud of yourself and will set the tone for the day.

Unlike other morning routines like weight training or running, which takes thirty minutes to an hour, making your bed is simple and only takes three minutes to do.

And at the end of the day, if you feel miserable, you can always come home to a bed that looks neat and well-made.

At the heart of this simple task, it makes you realize that little things matter and by realizing this you’ll be inspired to do bigger things.

20 MINUTE MEDITATION FROM TIM FERRISS

5-morning rituals that help me win the day. Tim Ferriss is an American author and entrepreneur.

In his book Tools of Titans, he said that 80% of the successful people he interviewed have a mindfulness practice of some type.

Along with his other four rituals practice that helps him win the day, this includes meditating for 20 minutes. Ferriss describes meditation as a warm bath for your mind to reduce anxiety, be more productive and effective, and become less reactive.

Meaning you’ll become less susceptible to being carried away by knee-jerk emotions and obsessing about past and future plans.

It’s a great way to train your mind to focus on single tasks. Eventually, meditation is taking control of your mind from your emotions.

There are many proven benefits of meditation and the most known of them is decluttering your mind to keep your focus on what’s important.

And as we all know focus and concentration are lacking nowadays. Because of endless distractions offered by technology. There have been scientific studies that prove meditation has a positive effect on the amygdala.

The emotion center of your brain. These studies have shown that meditation results in enduring beneficial changes in brain function.

Especially in the area of emotional processing which improves emotional regulation. These hacks to enhance your life have one goal.

As said by Tim Ferriss on meditation, taking control of your mind to proactively create your day and your life. Instead of being a walking reflex that every so often screws up.

Or as Mel Robbins said to avoid giving control to your emotions in your brain. Because your brain is biologically hardwired to protect you from taking new experiences and uncertainty.
